Elijah was one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament. So much so, that when God concluded the Old Testament, He mentioned Elijah in the same context as Moses. That is John, the Baptist represented the Elijah that was to come and prepare the way for Jesus', before Jesus' first coming.
