Nixon, Joan. (1982). The Specter. New York: Random House, Inc. The Specter is a great book! Joan Lowery Nixon is a great author! This book is about a 17 year old girl named Dina trying to fight off cancer. While she is in the hospital she gets a younger roommate, Julie. Julie has just survived a horrible car accident and she is the only one who made it. Julie thinks someone purposely tried to kill her. Julie is afraid that who ever caused the accident will try to kill her again. When they are both out of the hospital, Julie thinks Dina might have something to do with the accident. So while Dina is driving she starts chocking Dina. Dina swears that she didn't have anything to do with the accident! To prove herself, she helps Julie figure out who caused the car accident. The character Dina is a seven-teen year old girl who's trying to fight off cancer. She is in the hospital a lot so she doesn't really have time to do regular things like an ordinary seven-teen year old would do. She also has dark hair and is skinny. This book is great! I love books that you just want to keep reading to find out what happens. Joan Lowery Nixon is a great author! This book scared me a little at a couple parts but was really awesome! If you are in to mystery this would be the perfect gift for you!

A GREAT MYSTERY!!!

This is a great book about a teen named Dina who is strugling with homesickness and Hodkins diasese, which has left her in the hospital. Her newly found 9 year old friend, Julie, was in a car accident in which both her parents died, and is convinced that a man named "Sikes" killed them, and is coming back to get her. With no remaining relatives, Julie is very attached to Dina, and refuses to leave her side. Right when everything in Dina's life seems to be working it's way back to normal, she finds that Julie isn't all she appears to be... Read this book, I am telling you, you won't regret it!!!

Scary!

This book is about a girl named Dina who has cancer. She meets a little girl named Julie who has no family, and thinks she is being stalked by Sikes, the one who she says killed her family. Dina ends up taking her everywhere, and gets lots of people into trouble when Julie thinks she sees Sikes everywhere. I loved the twist at the end. It really surprised me! I give it five stars and sixty exclamation points!!!

Greatest Nixon Book By Far!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the greatest Nixon book I have ever read, it was the first one I have read and I have gone back to read it several times, including doing two book reports on it. It's spine chilling and nerve wracking. You can't put it down, so don't even try! It keeps you on the edge of your seat, and then makes you fall off with a surprize ending! Definatly five stars and fifty exclamation points!!!!!!!!

The Specter

This a great mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked how the two main characters (Julie & Dina) needed to be friends, but Dina was afraid that befriending Juilie would make her the target of a killer. I love Nixon's books, especially her suspensful mysterys and I reccomend this book for other young adults to enjoy!
