A journey through the 90's of an average kid from the Midwest and his love for all things Alternative...If there is one particular scent... that reminds me of what it was like to be a teenager, it's that of Swisher Sweets. I wasn't one who generally hung with the groups of kids that sat on decks at parties and blew out dark, cancerous clouds of smoke and then watched as they wafted, and soon evaporated, into the cool, fall air above them. And even though I never really was a "cigar kind of guy", every time I smell that perfumed aroma of teenage rebellion, it takes me back to the mid-90's: a time in my life when I had no idea how hard the world outside of my high school's walls could be. Long before I had any idea that I would someday have my heart broken, live in a foreign country, visit the home of The Beatles, vote Democrat, get married, have children, write a book, and spend my life in the same walls and halls that metaphorically watched me grow from a tiny six-year-old, to a gangly and awkward eighteen-year-old.The one scent that instantaneously has the power to remind me what it was like during the summer of 1997 and how great it felt to be outside with all of my friends, listening to great, new music and riotously laughing at each other without a single grown-up thought or idea existing in our heads- only visions of girls and beer and music. Girls and beer and music... that seems like a pretty good place to begin...
