The Sounds of the Heart: God was by my side

A short time ago, I lived an experience that moved the foundations of my life. It was an experience that literally touched my heart, because I suffered a myocardial infarction. While I was debating between life and death, the medical team informed me that I had already suffered a heart attack before, without realizing it. My survival can be summed up in the phrase of the cardiologist who performed the coronary angioplasty: "God was on your side".
A long time after that ailment and realizing how close I came to death led me to ask myself why I had two heart attacks. Surviving one was a miracle, having a second and living to control it had only one explanation: I had to write my story. All stories, real or fictional, deserve to be told and read, no matter how banal, simple or polemic they may seem to us, for they contain the dust of a walker's shoes, someone's unfulfilled dream or a far-reaching moral.
What makes a story relevant is not its greatness or smallness, its notability or simplicity. It is the way it is told to the avid eyes or open ears of the readers or listeners who are the ones who establish its importance and transcendence. The receiver of the story is always the one who determines its relevance and how it will influence his or her behavior and character. That is why all stories deserve to be told. After all, we are all, at some point, storytellers, listeners or readers of stories.
In those dark hours as I struggled between life and death, a voice came from the bottom of my heart. It made sense of the inexplicable, the impossible and the inextricable. At that moment, my thoughts were abstracted and I listened only to the sounds coming from within my heart. They saved my life.
