This is the Volume Three of Bobby Chase-the-Lord, the final one. Bobby leaves the Bolton Ranch and heads for Monolove, California, a former gold-mining town mostly empty now. He and friend Ammon Burkhart, looking for a place to spend the night, run into "Nasty" Biskup and Angie Shiner. Nasty is trying to take over Monolove by chasing everyone out that's still there. Bobby and Ammon leave the next morning, not welcome at Nasty's. In the cold, snowy morning while deciding what next, the Bishop of the local Mormon Church returning home from Dogwood takes a cup of coffee with them. Bobby ends up buying the Bishop's church, gold claim and property. The Bishop is leaving before Nasty's gang chases him out or kills him. Bobby holds church services for the few that attend. Nasty and his gang tell them to leave or else. Trouble coming, Bobby goes to Dogtown and buys arms and ammunition and meets Cornelia Brown, daughter of the gun store owner, a Deputy Marshal. Bobby falls in love with Cornelia, returns home and Ammon tells him Tex Lilburn and Bobby's girlfriend, Daphne Merik, are being held captive by Nasty's gang. Turmoil sets in with Bobby, what's he going to do about Daphne and Cornelia? Which one should he marry? Making matters worse, Cornelia shows up with her father, who is looking for the outlaws that shot up Dogtown. A showdown is coming and who will live through it?
