For years, rumors of what happens at the Jenkins trailer have been ignored in Truluck, a small railroad town on the South Carolina coast. But, when dangerous "accidents" begin to impact the town's resurgence, the most notorious Truluck native can no longer be ignored.
Harper Jenkins returns from Chicago after a ten-year absence. She's no longer a girl from the wrong side of the tracks wearing hand-me-down's and smelling of poverty. She's spent her time away completing her college degrees and working at a prestigious financial house as a forensic accountant. But now, her arrival back in Truluck to care for her mother has the grapevine working in overdrive.
The town is much as she left it, with most of Main Street shuttered and the population dwindling. However, with a new mayor and new enthusiasm to bring industry and people back to the small town, Harper finds herself engaged in the place she worked so desperately hard to flee, to prove to herself and the people of Truluck that she is as good as, if not better than all of them.
And Harper is as "accident prone" as her mother.
Harper finds herself thrust into old wounds, open and gaping, unhealed from her childhood. She has to contend with still being an outcast from the trailer park, an old boyfriend, a grandmother known as the town madwoman, and a mother who is all but a stranger.
