I AM NOT ELEANOR ROOSEVELT FROM SOUTH MIAMI...I AM ANITA FINLEY. SOMEHOW IT LOOKS ON MY COMPUTER AS THOUGH SHE WROTE IT. The Songbird In My Heart--The Magnificence of Being By Mark Steven Rhoads; reviewed by Anita Finley The inside flap of the book jacket expresses the message of this book's author so eloquently. "This book has a simple intention, to point you toward the purpose of your life, to recognize the simple magnificence that is you and to perceive life's remarkable beauty around you. The story is told with prose and poetry that comes from my heart to yours. It is intended to be read on a lazy, contemplative afternoon." Author Mark Steven Rhoads summarizes with "You are hearing the call of inner knowing, to a new life of self-discovery. I implore you; do not ignore this call. Surrender to its message of beauty and grace. It is your inner songbird calling to you. I know because I can hear it too...Listen, can you hear it, the call of the songbird in your heart?" You have all heard of the bluebird of happiness I'm sure. They have a very special song and if you are ready and know its beauty, you will never forget it. I have always been a bird lover, having many finches and assortment of other birds in cages and aviaries in various times of my life. So this book shouted out to me to sit down in a quiet spot and relax, reading the poetry and absorbing its messages. I can only advise you to purchase this book, enjoy each poem and the stories to go along with them. Then I can almost guarantee you will probably want to buy a bird feeder so you can be near these delicate creatures, listen to their songs and watch their antics. The perfect gift is one that the recipient will cherish, long after the excitement of receiving the gift has passed. Well, this is one that will truly bring many hours of peace, delight and a new way of thinking about everyday events. The skies will appear bluer, the wind's whistling will be melodic and each birds song will warm your heart. The words that Rhoads uses are so stimulating and motivational..."You are a magical mystery, an enduring energy of love and kindness, a wistful field of benefaction..." Another passage from his poem, "Life's True Adventure," says: To look deep within. Right here, right now. To drink from the well of inner knowing, to be more real. To live a life in wisdom. A philosopher on a search for grace, a journey for truth. There are many colored photos that put the reader in the mood to be ready to apply the words. For example, there is a photo of a leaning rock near the Cumberland Gap in Tennessee and excerpts from the poem reflecting on this image: "The stone stands, bloated and heavy, anticipating that the sculptor will remove the excess illusion of stone and expose the beauty within. The hope of the ancestors is that you realize you are the stone, awaiting the chisel..." The book is divided into two parts. The second part, Acts of Contemplation--Freedom of a Glad Heart consists of more

A Special Treat

It makes you stop and think and not take things we see and do everyday for granted. It is well written and thought provoking. I recommend it! The author did a great job.

Yes, I have read this book and I still thumb through it on a daily basis...

Mark Rhoads has done an excellent job in describing the process of one's spiritual journey. I have never read a book in this genre before and I feel like it was the right start. It's a very easy and thought provoking book. It made me pay closer attention to my thought process and the nature around me. This book is wonderfully illustrated and the poems accent them. I highly reccomend this book!

Great vacation book...

I took this book on vacation last week and found it to be a perfect companion. The book is a collection of short poems enveloped in a storyline that provides a personal insight into the events and circumstances experienced by the author that gave rise to much of the prose. It is a book about relaxation and escaping from the daily grind \ treadmill we too often place ourselves in. A great compliment to my vacation. Each chapter is short, allowing you to pursue other activities and then re-engage without having a need for review and catch up. I highly recommend it.
