The Song of the Tellico River

Enjoying their first real vacation in years, Tom Wilson makes his brother, Don, leave work behind and travel through the Blue Ridge Mountains, stopping only to fly-fish, eat, sleep, and sight see. Everything goes as planned until they stop in the town of Tellico Plains, Tennessee, where, during a night of drinking, they meet Richard Lambert, a bartender and fishing guide. Tom arranges for Rich to guide them the next day, and while they fish the stream, the guide mentions two murders that occurred in the river gorge in 1987; the victim's bodies discovered 30 years apart. Don can't refrain from trying to learn more about the murders and ultimately convinces Tom they should stay awhile and investigate the circumstances of the murders. In the Native American Cherokee culture, all things are alive: the trees, the wind, the rivers, even the mountains have life. And all living things have their own song of life that dictates how they interact with the world and each other. If one listens closely enough, one can hear their songs, songs that tell the story of the life of the object or thing or animal. The river, and the gorge through which it flows, knows the truth about the murders, and it will give up that information to those that listen for the voice and the song.A mining company, a local real estate agent, three different law enforcement agencies, and some local indigenous people are part of the trail of truth. The story twists and turns until the least likely solution to the question is finally exposed.
