Must-read book for anyone interested in sociology of gangs.

The studies done in this book would be more difficult and dangerous to duplicate today. The authors lived in a low-income neighborhood in the 1960's and were able to closely observe community and gang behavior; they have many good insights into the nature of social relationships. If they tried the same study today, the people in the "slum" would first want to negotiate the movie rights!
