A fun day of playing in the snow

My 2 year old grandson lives this book especially in anticipation of a snowstorm on the way. Lot of opportunity to talk about things to do in the snow. A wonderful book for a toddler.

Wonderful!

I fell in love with this book when my children were small. I am collecting their favorite books to share with the grand children (when they materialize).

Buyer beware! Imagination Library editions being sold.

I’m very disappointed that the book I received was an Imagination Library edition of this book. That means this book was free to the original owner and by selling it they are in violation of these terms conditions for the Imagination Library. This is a great organization and program for children and seeing it taken advantage of and honestly being taken advantage of is really disgusting. This edition is also bilingual, which isn’t a huge deal but again was not described as such. Very disappointed. I’m in the process of trying to return it but so far have been told that it’s ineligible.

Great kids Christmas book

Easy delightful Christmas book with great illustrations

Great fun

appropriate for a number of reasons, plus attractive

Great for a teacher

It was called acceptable and it came with repairs already made. It is perfect to use in my classroom and I love that the price was right for my budget. Perfect for my needs!

I love it so much! -my 6yo

She says she likes it "because his dreams became true, and he didn't throw a fit when he wasn't allowed in the snowball fight, and because he was smacking the tree with his stick. It was so hilarious. It's the best, isn't it." (No, I have no idea where she picked up "hilarious," but it is pretty funny when a 6yo uses it. Probably helps that we do read 4-5 books a night for bedtime stories, something she and her 8yo brother still beg for, though sometimes the 8yo reads one of them aloud) It is a lovely story, and I don't mind reading it every day for a week. Standing the test of time. We got our copy from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

The Snowy Day memory

A childhood favorite book that I had to share with my own offspring.

Beautifully done!

Such a sweet book, captures the joys of childhood. Spanish translation is very well done. A must!

A timeless tale of a child's appreciation of a snowy day

Exra Jack Keats' "A Snowy Day" is utterly timeless. As simple and charming and lovely today as it was when first published in 1963, it describes the small adventures of Peter, a city boy who wakes up one day to find the city entirely shrouded in snow. Peter does what any other red-blooded child would do: he puts on his snowsuit and runs outside. There he indulges in the age-old pursuits of making funny footprints in the snow, hitting a tree to watch the clumps of snow fall from it, making a snowman and snow angels, and sliding down a hill covered with snow. He even packs a snowball into his coat pocket. The story is minimalist, as are the collages which illustrate the text, but the overall effect is delicious. Peter is a nimble expression of childhood vitality and play, and the pictures combine fabric, rubber stamps, what looks to be wallpaper, paper cut-outs, and fiber to very great effect. It's short, it's sweet, and it's simple--just like the best snowy days.

Great!!!

I purchased this book for my one year old daughter because I remembered it from my childhood. My daughter enjoys it so much that I now read the book 6 times a day and I still enjoy the book. It is particulaly difficult to find books featuring black children with a strong story line. The Snowy Day hits the mark. I now intend to purchase other Ezra Keats books.

It's a classic (and a Caldecott Medal winner) for a reason!

This book is part of my standard baby shower gift package along with Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. With very few words it manages to tell a very simple, yet very elegant story that young children can relate to. The pictures are beautiful and draw children further into the story. As an added bonus, the main character is African-American. Though it makes no difference to the story, it was important to me as a child reading this book 25 years ago to see a kid that looked like me in a book where race was not the focus of the plot, and is important to children of any race reading it today. I cannot recommend this book highly enough for any child of any race, boy or girl.
