Gripping and Honest Page-Turner

The gritty story really moves along and is an attention grabber right from the start. The Snow Angel is one of those few books I found really hard to put down except when my eyes were closing by themselves late in the evening. But the book works on more levels than just story. The characters are drawn so well that I never had the wonder 'why' they acted the way they did. That is a rarity - not that their actions were predictable, but rather after the fact I had the feeling that what they did was exactly what they would. These are not simple stick characters; they are people the reader gets to know for a brief time. There is an overall portrait of the underbelly of a city with its intrigues and especially its interconnections of people good, bad, and the mix of good and bad that is so much of reality rather than just a story. The author clearly knows his stuff and knows how to deliver it to us.

Snow Angel

I have been a law enforcement officer for over 25 years. I loved this book because, though it shows the horror officers deal with (some on a daily basis), and the devastating effect the job can have on some people emotionally, it is also a book about redemption and love and a reminder that even those we consider to be the dregs of society are still beings capable of doing a good thing. The saying "what goes around comes around," best describes the satisfying ending of this story.

An Excellent, Exciting Read!

Michael Graham's "The Snow Angel" goes way beyond the traditional police procedural. Deeply moving, this novel not only takes us through the commission, investigation and resolution of a horrible crime, it lays bare the inner workings of inter-department rivalry, the politics of policing and, most important, into the wounded hearts and souls of those who struggle to remain in touch with their humanity as they deal, hands on, with the lowest and worst in our society.

A CANDID EXAMINATION OF A SLICE OF DETROIT

Detroit is without doubt the basis for the setting of the unnamed city where "The Snow Angel" takes place. I lived in Detroit most of my life. "The Snow Angel", based on my experience, sets out a realistic picture of Detroit's urban problems and race relations. While the picture of Detroit painted by Mr. Graham clearly details any major city's racial turmoil and other problems, the book cannot be criticized as racist or bigoted. Mr. Graham - through the characters' dialog- simply lays out a objective situation, and says "That's how it is and nuts with political correctness". It is a tender topic discussed well. Any of the book's characters could be a poster child for the hardship, misery, and grief arising out of the lack of self worth, hopelessness, alcoholism, depression, and despair, "The Snow Angel" in essence is a story about overcoming these burdens The central characters' trip from the dark to the light is what makes the book impressive and interesting.

Hooked

It has been a long time since I considered calling in sick because a book had me in it's grips! The Snow Angel had me hooked and I could not put the book down, I wanted more! The story is compelling, the tension and human drama are real and all the character are fleshed out and got under my skin. Especially Kane, Bell and Easterly. I can't wait to find the three main characters Kane, Bell and Easterly again in a follow up novel. As I said :I am hooked and want more.
