The Sky Is Burning
Ten years have passed. Anok is now twenty-two, a skilled hunter and a trusted member of his clan. He has learned to read footprints, clouds, animals-and the silence that warns of danger. But nothing has prepared him for the night when everything he knows is torn away.
Forced from their home, Anok and the survivors begin a journey into an unknown world. They cross violent rivers, climb through unfamiliar mountains and enter lands where every shadow may hide a predator-or another group of people who may not welcome strangers.
Then Anok meets Eyota.
She belongs to another clan. Her gestures are unfamiliar, her sounds are different, and at first they can barely understand one another. Yet something grows between them that needs no words. A glance lasts longer. A touch carries a promise. For the first time, Anok discovers a feeling more powerful than fear-and something worth risking his life to protect.
But love cannot stop hunger, cold or danger. Old rivalries follow the survivors, trust begins to fracture, and every decision may determine who reaches the next morning. As two groups struggle to understand each other, Anok realizes that words can do more than name animals and warn of danger. They can preserve memories, reveal hidden feelings, create loyalty-and divide people.
In Book One, Anok's people began finding words.
Now they must learn what words can do.
ANOK II continues the journey into a time before history, when survival depended on courage, loyalty and the fragile bonds between people. It is a story of escape, first love and growing into responsibility in a world without roads, maps or certainty.
A prehistoric adventure for young adults and adult readers who enjoy survival stories, emotional journeys and imagining how the earliest human bonds may have shaped who we are today.
