The fictional piece starts with young Al Morelli, a 15 year old boy growing up in northern Italy. After Al's parents are tragically murdered, he moved to Brooklyn for his safety. Al returns to Italy during the Second World War to fight with the Americans. The non-fictional section takes place in the mid-1940's focusing on the Second World War, with a particular emphasis during the Battle of Anzio.
