The book you will read a million times

I have read this book at least seven times and love it more every time. This book is everything in one, it is comical, interesting and helps you to understand life. The characters all seem so true to real life. While reading this book you will actually feel like you know the characters, for example I cry everytime I read about lily's father drinking with his deceased best freind. I suggest this book to everyone and hope that this Susan Skramstad writes many more books because the world could sure use more of what she has to give. Which in her case are genuinly great stories you never forget.

This Book is Absolutely Amazing!!!

In a world of so many unfullfilling books, it is really refreshing to finally read one that is not only masterfully-written, but also speaks to the reader. I promise you that every character in this book has at least something in common with you. You find yourself completely wrapped up in story. I felt like these characters were my own family! All I can say is that you have to read this book for yourself. You will not regret it.

I laughed out loud

This is a well-written, original, funny novel. The main character (Lilly) sings opera all-day long, breaking into true voice at public functions (to the mortification of her children). She also unknowingly says her thoughts out loud, startled when people reply as if they can read her mind. I found myself wondering how much trouble I'd be in if I went around saying my thoughts out loud. My world would definitely become more interesting! The character of Lilly alone makes this novel worth reading! But there's more: she captures the essence of age so well, the supporting cast of characters feel like people you know -- or maybe even yourself in the past, present or future. Kirkus reviews suggested people in mid-life would enjoy this book. That may be true, but I'm 31 years old (hopefully not mid-life yet), and I also loved it. I truly hope the author writes another!

A wonderful story!

Granted, I am biased, but my mother's novel is truly one of the best I've read. It is a touching, yet at times hilarious, story about the intricacies of family and friendship. It is one of those stories I think everyone can relate to in one way or another. I loved it and recommend it highly.

This book is funny in an "I can Identify" sort of way.

Lily is dealing with 2 teenage children as well as a marriage that may have lost a little zip. After her daugther graduates from high school, Lily takes her to the New College Orientation. There she also visits her parents and finds that age is having an effect there as well.Lily's thoughts as she deals with life's changes and questions are true as well as truly funny. For example: As Lily contemplates the details of the "Graduation Night" Party for her daughter she notices the wall paper in the bathroom is drooping. This is the wall paper she had worked so hard to put up. She was so frustrated with the wall paper that she thought about tearing it down then and there & throwing it in the toilet. She would have too, if she didn't think her husband would comment on her "emotional" outbursts.
