Anyone experienced with family dynamics should read this book. An eye opening portrayal of family conflict, based on the author's personal experiences growing up in a dysfunctional family. Even those who believe they are in a more or less stable family environment will find themselves, if not someone they have known, among the characters presented. After all, it is not until we are grown up and living away from our first family that we begin to question what is and what is not acceptable behavior. The patterns are intriguing. No matter who you are and where you're from, this one is bound to resonate. As with most stories, whether they are fiction or non-fiction, the drama unfolds around a central character. The author is both narrator and protagonist, as she describes situations in which the antagonist pits one family member against another until relationships are stretched and strained beyond repair. And the fall-out is not pretty.
