From 1972 until 1976 the Silver Eagles performed at air bases all across the South with the purpose of recruiting young people into the Army and showing the capabilities of the helicopter. "The Silver Eagles: Performers in Uniform" is the story of their brief history. The Silver Eagles even had a solo performer in Bozo, the clown helicopter that flew during lulls in the show or for demonstration purposes. There's even one part of the show that has five helicopters surround Bozo and escort him to "jail" until he "escapes" through a drop-down routine, again showing helicopter capability. How does the military use helicopters in service? It makes a great rescue vehicle, traffic control, searches, aerial photography, entrance and exit from small spaces, and transport, and artillery attacks. The military helicopter is just one part of military history. By the time of World War II the Army Air Corps separated from the Army to become Army Aviation. Some of the first choppers the Army flew became famous through "M*A*S*H, the television program. By the 1960s several new choppers had been created: the Huey, the Kiowa, the Chinook, and the Cobra. The Silver Eagles are made up of OH6, or Cayuse, one of the smallest Army choppers. The rest of the book outlines training, routines, and life as a Silver Eagle. After four years of performance the Silver Eagles were given orders to disband. This book memorializes their brief fame, making this out-of-publication book a collector's item. --
