The Silver Coffin and Others

Robert Barbour Johnson (1908-1987) was one of the most distinctive contributors to Weird Tales and other pulp magazines in the 1930s and 1940s. His story "Far Below" is often considered one of the greatest stories ever published in that magazine; and other tales deal with such venerable weird themes as vampirism, supernatural revenge, and the haunted house. Johnson exhibited a fascination with the theories of Charles Fort, and became involved with the Fortean Society. In several articles also included in this book, Johnson speaks of the controversies associated with the society. He also speaks highly of H. P. Lovecraft, Arkham House, and the classic tradition of weird fiction--a tradition he himself enriched with his own contributions.
