Throughout history, even to the present day, the way in which the cat affects human beings sets them apart from other animals. The cat seems always to have stimulated the imagination, resulting in a wide range of myths and legends.
Many claims of remarkable powers have been attributed to it and it has always brought about extremes of views. At times in its association with man, the cat has been considered to be divine, and worshipped as such, at others, it has been feared as an evil spirit, and put to death.
Although it seems unlikely that cats are actually worshipped today, they are treated by many with both respect and fear.
