“We’re going to protect it like it was your daughter’s cherry” - Bill Hafner (R. Lee Ermey).

“The Siege of Firebase Gloria” (1988) or (1989). The story takes place during the Chinese New Year, January 1968, and the TET Offensive. This is the story of Firebase Gloria, supposedly in Vietnam, filmed in the Philippines. I have to get used to the Firebase’s name, as all the firebases I was at had numbers, not names. Starts, gratuitously gory. Long narrative by Bill Hafner (R. Lee Ermey). Soon to find out that the narrative runs through the whole movie, as if someone were reading a diary to us. Crummy, second-rate background music. M-14s, M-16s, M-60s, M-79s, and whatnot. Some marines are clean-faced, others are dirty, fuzzy-faced. People drinking “Budweiser”, you would think it would be “33”. Where did he get that big can of pork and beans? It should be a tad smaller and have ham and lima beans. Lots of action. Lots of sneaking around. Ruthless people with claymores. Even though you know that big picture, you may be surprised at the movie's conclusion.
