With the approach of Daisy's birthday comes a terrible revelation, which threatens to change everything. Whilst Daisy and Megan continue to work their emerging magical abilities, Scott is faced with an increasing sense of being different, a feeling that is not helped by his father's scoffing of his son's desire to be a writer. As the friends find their childhood a rapidly retreating dream, they are forced to face the adult world, only to discover it is not the place they hoped it would be.
