2 Shadow novel reprints that real his TRUE identity.

Nostalgia Ventures and Anthony Tollin have teamed up to do a comprehensive reprint of several Street & Smith pulp heroes. At present, they are doing double reprints of The Shadow and Doc Savage. Shortly, they will start new series reprinting The Avenger and The Whisperer. All have complete pulp texts (no edits or removals, like past reprints), tho reset so its easier to read, the original illustrations, reprinted covers (one is used as the cover of the book, but both original pulp covers are shown on the back), and several additional articles and extras. Hopefully, they can succeed to reprinting all these characters in these new editions, they are all excellent. With The Shadow having over 325 pulp novels, only a few reprinted, for the most part they are avoiding those that have been reprinted. They do try to pick two that more or less 'go together' in terms of a common theme. With this book, #15, we have "The Shadow Unmasks" (Aug 1, 1937) and "The Yellow Band" (Aug 15, 1937). The common theme of these is they deal with The Shadow's REAL identity: Kent Allard. The cover of "The Shadow Unmasks" is the cover of this volume, and the original pulp covers are shown on the back cover. "The Shadow Unmasks" is a story I've long wanted to read, ever since I read about it in the "Duende History of the Shadow". Fans of the radio version think that The Shadow is really Lamont Cranston. Fans of the pulp learned early on that Lamont Cranston and The Shadow are two separate people, in the third novel. BUT, until this story we never learned his TRUE identity: WWI pilot and spy Kent Allard. "The Yellow Band" actually follows the first story, and also makes full use of Kent Allard, in a story set in Miami. As extras in this issue are: "Out of the Shadows" by pulp historian Will Murray, explaining the genesis of these two stories. A "Spotlight on The Shadow" by series editor Anthony Tollin, on the 'real Kent Allard': Col Percy Fawcett, who also inspired other pulp characters. "Writing the Shadow" by Will Murray, on Gibson and writing The Shadow novels.

At Long Last !! The Shadow's True Identity Is Revealed!!

At long, long last someone has reprinted the 1937 Shadow novel( and its immediate sequel) that revealed the core mystery of the Shadow's identity, Kent Allard, WWI ace aviator and explorer. Never reprinted until now this is the most eagerly awaited of all the Shadow novels in the Nostalgia Ventures series. So eagerly awaited that the first print is apparently sold out. A five-star for what it is not for the great writing or plot, The Shadow Unmasks, is the star of this collection. The Yellow Band is a weaker entry in the series but features both Kent Allard and Lamont Cranston. There were other Shadow identites( Henry Arnaud, George Clarendon, Fritz the janitor, etc.) but these are the two primary alter egos and this collection is at last available. Thank you, Nostalgia Ventures!
