The Shadow Over Sarnath

SARNATH- a city with a prophesy of DOOM hanging over it from events of 50 years before. High Priest Taran-Ish was found dead on the floor of the High Temple, eyes open and filled with terror at something he alone had seen.

A city haunted by nightmarish dreams ever since....

Now, its King, Shaidam has died, leaving Sarnath in the hands of his daughter Mareythe who feels unprepared for her new role as Queen, and his son Prince Kalo, whom some call the Whisperer because he has a strange mental power: he can see others' emotions and sense cosmic forces to which ordinary men and women are blind. He calls this power the Sight.

It tells him that a new evil has opened a doorway into the city, and plans something terrible.

Kalo learns of others with the Sight. Seven others - a woman with dark skin from afar, a dancer, a fisherman, a priest, a foundry worker, a matron of one of Sarnath's Great Houses, and a girl aged 14 - can also sense a deep and abiding evil that has broken open a doorway into their city.
