The Seven Liberal Arts were formalized in the Fifth Century A.D. One of these original and ancient seven is the complex art of language, and more specifically grammar. Grammar is much more than what was drummed into you in primary school. Grammar is the root of how we speak and understanding one another. Compiled in this volume is a chronicle of the history and use of grammar and linguistics, an overview of the theories about grammar and how we learn language, and details of the Theoretical, Descriptive, and Applied Linguistics branches. We also touch lightly on the style guides and copy editors in use today.
