Cute but I wish it had more to it

I was quite surprised to discover that this little book came with four adorable little figurines! They go very well with the subject material of the book and the book has lots of information in a small about of space on fairies. On that I was impressed, especially with the eventide fairies. I only wish there had been just a little more to the book itself. It was entertaining light reading.

Absolute magic for my little girl. Her favorite book.

This book has proved to be a work of genius for my six year old girl, who refers to it as a scientific fount of authority. She loves the beautiful plastic figurines which came with the book (they really are quite nicely painted), and she adores poring over the information. I like the biological tone of the book: the book uses the language of science and biology to explore the ecology of fairies. Fairies are thought of in their diversity of types, their reproduction, their food, their behavior and so forth. It's quite well done for that young one in your life. The reading level is advanced. Probably best for 7-9 year old girls. Don't hesitate to buy this, particularly as a gift (the toy figurines make it very special seeming) for someone in your life.

Lovely fairy lore

I DID buy this book primarily as a resource for exploring all the different types of fairies with my young son. It has pictures and background for all fairies from the commonly seen and read-about flower fairies to water and eventide fairies. Descriptions of male roles in fairy family life and the rearing of babies, as well as instructions for how to find fairies and what to say when meeting them, all added to the magic of fairies for me and my child. The pictures are lovely and the general overview of so many fairy types makes this a nice reference for those who would like to share the life of fairies with children or for those who want to remember our first experiences with fairy stories and feeling like we would see them on our next trip to the woods or in the night sky. Charming!
