Written with a great sense of humor!

I enjoyed reading this book! The pictures were fun and the writing was matter-of-fact and well done. Personally, I think having the training parts list "basenji" as a required item is humorous, especially since you need humor when dealing with this breed. You'd be surprized how many people out there give up their dogs because they don't try hard enough to train them to learn the most basic commands, like sit and stay.(I am speaking from experience because I'm a rescuer myself.) The authors do a good job of explaining the adoption requirements and providing sound advice regarding Basenjis.

A+++! If you want or have a Basenji, you must have this book

At last! Here's a real useful book on Basenjis! I studied many Basenji books, and only this one gave me what I really, really needed to know about this breed of dog. The information is well presented and the pictures are wonderful. What I liked best were the Tailtips that gave excellent advice, along with the way the book was written (friendly, personable).

A Great Book on a Great Breed of Dog

Ever since I saw the movie "Good-Bye, My Lady" when I was young, I dreamed of owning (being owned?) by a Basenji. It wasn't until quite recently that I was able to make my dream come true, and I did it with the help of this book. It's easy to read format with lots of pictures helped me determine that yes, the Basenji was the breed of dog for me. It clearly explained the pros and cons of the breed, and alerted me to ask some good questions from breeders and other people I talked to. I can't say enough good things about the book, especially since it helped me learn so much about Basenjis! I agree with the other reviewers: if you buy one book on Basenjis, even if you aren't looking for a rescue dog, this should be THE book you buy.

If you only buy one book on Basenjis, this should be it!

Most breed books these days seem to cater to the breeder-wannabe and the show person, forgetting that most of us out there are looking for a dog as a companion! This book goes the extra mile, showing Basenjis (a wonderful breed) exactly as they are, and it really does answer questions that most of us do have about the breed. Rescue is a wonderful way to find your next best friend, and anyone looking to add a Basenji to their life must read "The Secondhand Basenji Handbook!" The authors have done an excellent job with this book!

The best book on Basenjis you will ever own!

I purchased this book because I was interested in finding out more about Basenji rescues. I found that other books I'd read were geared more toward people who wanted to show and breed their dogs. This book is written expressely for the person who simply wants a Basenji to enjoy as a pet. It will tell you just about anything you really want to (and need to) know about the breed, will give you real-world advice about living with a Basenji, and you will find the answers to all of your Basenji questions here. I really do recommend that, if you are looking for a Basenji or are interested in rescuing one, that you buy this book. I find myself coming back to it again and again whenever I have a question about my Basenji. The book also has lots and lots of fantastic pictures of Basenjis in it. I ended up adopting my dog from a rescue club in my town. They recommended the book, and I do too!
