A GREAT WORK!!

My father wrote this book back in seventy nine and until just recently i had not read it. i know many of you other reviewers have looked for other works by my father. im pleased to tell you all that he is currently in the process of writing another work which should if all goes to plan be in print by spring of '07. just thought i would give you all a heads up on that! oh another possibility we are currently considering is a "special edition" copy of the second son. only 923 copies will be made and each will come autographed or something like that. Best book I've ever read!

This novel, The Second Son, was first published in October 1979. I haven't been able to locate any other work by Charles Sailor, however, I am still trying. Without a doubt, this book is the best book I have ever read. It touched my heart from the beginning to end. The plot was wonderful and I felt like I was there with Joseph all the time. The publishing company, AVON, would do well to have this book reprinted. Supposedly, there was a movie to be made of this novel. I'll have to check and see if I can find out about that too. Do yourself a favor. Read this book if you can find a copy of it.

Second Son Great Book

I got this book from my Aunt. Its a great story of an ordinary man trying to be his best and be a good human being while living in reality. As a result of being a descent human being and going the extra mile for friends and neighbors Joseph gets a second chance at life. This second chance to live turns out to be more than just a simple miracle of surviving a fall from the 25th floor of a skyscraper. Joseph becomes overwhelmed by a sense of duty to help those in need or grave danger. Not knowing that while rescueing others he has repeatedly cheated death; this sparks the interest of the Media and in turn, the Catholic Church in search of the second son of God. Joseph has no idea what has and is happening to him other than a need to help the children. The media believes his a healer, his friend; a minister believes God has given him a great gift, the Pope thinks he's the second son of God until he speaks his philosophy for life. Basically stating to take care of yourself, family, friends and others around you, that no one is above the next man and from his experience with his Catholic friends the church provides little comfort or help to people and sees little to no need for the church, its rituals and Priests.Astounding circumstances and basic philosophy renew your belief in the world around you while sharing a story about an every day man that may change your out look on life and entertaining you at the same time.If anyone has ever found another book by Charles Sailor or found the movie of this book. Pick it up, read it, watch it and share it with others. I would love to find the movie but I haven't be able to find out if it was ever made. I still have not found anything else by Charles Sailor. It's a shame, I like to read more of his work.

The hypocrisy of organized religion

After a construction worker falls several stories with only minor injuries, the Catholic Church begins to suspect that he is the Second Son of God. This novels deals with the various tests he is subjected to prove or disprove this contention. Most importantly, this novel identifies the hypocrisy in organized religion. The author, Charles Sailor, shows the reader that true faith in God transcends organized relgion. This novel is a masterpiece!

The Second Son well worth locating and reading

I read this novel in the late 1970s, loaned it to someone who didn't return it, and now would love to read it again. It is the very thought-provoking story of a young construction worker who falls a great distance from the steel scaffolding of a skyscraper, survives with very little injury, and then begins to discover that he has other powers that could only be ascribed to The Second Son. He rescues a small child from a building fire via stairs that do not exist and saves a man from a gunshot to the belly by pressing his hand into the wound -- by the time the paramedics arrive, the man's wounds have already begun to heal. Because he might be who they think he might be, the Catholic church kidnaps him and takes him to Rome, where it begins to profit from his existance. What happens throughout these portions and the remainder of the book are very stimulating food for thought about how much "the First Son" and His meaning in our lives are in conflict with how He is "marketed," and not just by the Catholic Church. This novel should be on the reading list of anyone interested in how religious beliefs effect our daily lives. It's too bad it's out of print or no longer available for whatever reason.
