Rather simple Grace but good!

This is a fairly simple story written in 1919 but overall I rather liked it. Ruth McDonald sees John Cameron in a parade the town gives to those who are going off to war and recalls his heroism of their youth. She is also touched by his interaction with his mother and the sorrow of all those losing loved ones to the war. In other words, the war suddenly becomes real to her so she writes to tell John this and to thank him for his part in the revelation as well as to thank him for his heroism in her childhood. The letter comes when he is feeling particularly lonely and facing his own mortality, he responds and their relationship is renewed. Some Grace Hills drag, in my opinion this is easy reading and has its own charm.

The Search

"The Search" by Grace Livingston Hill is the first book that I have read that I did not thoroughly enjoy. (And I have read probably 36 of her books) The struggle that Ruth MacDoanld and John Cameron had to be together and find happiness was not compelling, and not up to the standard of Mrs. Hill's other wonderful books. This was a book I found easy to put down.
