This book by first time author Paul Martin offers the reader a lot of history and geography. It chronicles the journey of J.J. and Angel, half-sister dogs from the same mother, as they travel in search of the Golden Bone. After their owner abandons them at a rest stop in Texas, old Max the Dog gives them a book of clues and a map and sends them on a journey of learning and discovery. They meet many wise and playful animals along the way as they travel by boat, truck, and paw and endure hardships as they cross the country and go up and down the Eastern seaboard. You'll marvel at their pluck and luck all the way to the uplifting ending. Great drawings, too.
