I picked this book up because the plot intrigued me - I had yet to come across an inspirational historic fiction novel with a ship captained and sailed by women! I devoured my husband's Patrick O'Brien's series (the basis of the Master and Commander movie with Russell Crowe) so I figured I'd enjoy one about women sailors, but when I finished with the women of the Vera B, I told my husband he had to read it, as I was sure he'd even enjoy it - I was right! Good storytelling, a great mix of varied, likable, flawed characters as well as the ones you lovingly want to knock some sense into... And all the while the God-fearing women are approachable but not preachy, and you can relate to and root for the ones who are newly learning about Jesus, and discovering Faith. Love the sailing context - very refreshing and fun, even when it terrified me to think of the work you'd have to do on a rocking ship, in stormy weather, so far off the deck. Yikes! Looking forward to the next book and hoping as well as the authors set things up that there will be several more books to come!
