The Sea of Glass

There is a season that the Lord has prepared for His people upon the earth, and it is called the Season of the Sea of Glass. It is the season of solidity. It is the season of clarity. It is the season of rigidity and of indestructibility. It is the season of the possible possibility of the probability of the individual by grace. It is the season in which everything that has been hidden in the deep shall be made manifest, and everything that has been broken shall be made whole, and everything that has been delayed shall arrive in its appointed time.

The Sea of Glass is mentioned in the Word of God across both Testaments and across the languages of the apostles and the prophets. In Hebrew, the sea is yam (יָם), and the prophets speak of the abundance of the sea being turned to the people of God. In Aramaic, the language of our Lord and the language of the Syriac Peshitta, the sea is yamma (ܝܡܐ), the great deep over which the Spirit of the living God brooded in the beginning. In Greek, the language of the New Testament and of the Apocalypse, the sea is thalassa (θάλασσα), and John saw before the throne of God a sea of glass mingled with fire, and upon that sea stood those who had gotten the victory.

Five passages of Scripture form the foundation of this revelation. The first is Genesis 1:2: 'The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.' Before the world was formed, before the dry land appeared, before the first morning broke, there was the deep, and the Spirit of God was upon it. The Spirit was brooding upon the waters, hatching out a creation. The sea was the womb of the original blueprint.

The second is Exodus 24:10: 'And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under His feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.' When Moses and Aaron and Nadab and Abihu and the seventy elders of Israel went up the mountain, they saw beneath the feet of God a pavement that looked like sapphire and like the very body of heaven for clarity. That pavement is the floor of the throne. That pavement is the Sea of Glass.

The third is 1 Kings 7:23: 'And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.' Solomon, when he built the temple, made a sea of cast bronze. He set it before the house of the Lord. The priests washed in it. The sea was a sign and a type of the cleansing and the abundance of the people of God.

The fourth is Revelation 4:6: 'And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.' John, lifted up in the Spirit, saw before the throne of God a sea of glass clear as crystal. This is not the sea of the earth. This is not the sea of Galilee or the sea of Tarshish. This is the heavenly sea. This is the sea that is the floor of the throne room of God.

The fifth is Revelation 15:2: 'And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.' Now we see the sea of glass once more, but this time it is mingled with fire. And standing upon it are the overcomers-those who have gotten the victory. The Sea of Glass is the platform of victory. It is the floor upon which the conquerors of God shall stand.
