Book Overview

This timeless classic recounting the correspondence between two devils is one of Lewis's most brilliant imaginative creations and has sold millions of copies worldwide.

"My Dear Wormwood...."? Enter Screwtape, an experienced devil. His nephew Wormwood is just at the start of his career as a tempter and has been assigned to secure the damnation of an ordinary young man who has just become a Christian.? In this slyly humorous exchange, C. S. Lewis delves into moral questions about good and evil, temptation, repentance, and grace. Though the cunning actions of Wormwood and Screwtape occur nearly 100 years ago, readers will marvel at the parallels to modern life today.

This is a book for C. S. Lewis fans and anyone who wants to take a deep dive into what it means to be a human. Lewis uses The Screwtape Letters to convey religious concepts like temptation in an understandable way by exploring free will and how it is humanity's greatest weakness as well as its greatest strength, sharing thoughts on God's love and how He uses your pain and suffering to bring you closer to Him, and living by faith and not by your feelings within community.

Fav Of All Time

This book has changed my life. I read it in my senior year of high school and have tried to read it once a year ever since. It really brings to light the mindset of sin and how we are tempted. I would say it is great for all ages, but 16+ would be ideal for someone to understand and enjoy this.

Absolute Best!!

There isn't enough words to describe the way C.S. Lewis writes. This book is deep, comical, and serious all at once. It portrays uncle screwtape writing to his nephew wormword. From what I gathered they are both devils in Satan's army. He is instructing Wormwood on how to make the Christians stumble into sin and finally lead them to destruction. As a Christian, it is such an eye opening book that makes you hold prayer so much higher.

A very insightful read

This is a great book for older teens/adults. An intriguing topic that Lewis dives into, and usually best taken in bite sized chunks. Some darker content, as the characters are demons conversing over the best ways to keep humans out of the grasp of God and Christianity. Interesting subject matter that really makes you think and reflect inwardly and outwardly.

As good a communicator as ever existed.

I love reading Lewis because of his masterful way of communicating meaningful ideas in ways that relate to our curiosity. Screwtape letters explores the human condition and even breaks the forth wall. What else do you want?

A review of "The Screwtape Letters" By: C.S. Lewis

"The Screwtape Letters" is the absolute best book I have ever read. It is a very well written book. It really makes you think. C.S. Lewis' style is exquisite. He paints with words as an artist paints with pictures and a musician with notes and rhythms. While still being the best book I have ever read, it is also one of the strangest. Screwtape, an experienced devil, teaches his nephew, Wormwood, how to win a soul over from the so-called "Enemy", who is the Lord Jesus Christ. While he is doing this, he teaches the reader about the techniques that Satan uses to distract Christians away from God. Therefore, he is teaching us how to live better Christian lives and avoid giving in to temptations. He shows us through the example of his nephew, Wormwood, trying to win over a particular Englishmen. He tries to make him think that what he is doing is not sin. Even though, in the end, the man is not won over, we see how so many people go astray without even realizing it. This is an excellent book and I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a challenging book to read.
