Edvard Munch painted his Expressionist masterpiece The Scream (Der Schrei der Natur or The Scream of Nature in German and Skrik or Shriek in Norwegian) in 1893.
He created several versions using oil paint, tempera, pastel and crayon on cardboard as well as another on lithograph stone. Its iconic fame and unforgettable impact is arguably unparalleled in modern art.
