Teaching is the profession of instructing students, particularly in elementary, secondary, or postsecondary institutions.

Teaching is the largest occupation in the world in terms of the number of people who work in it. It was estimated that there were approximately 80 million teachers worldwide in the 21st century. Even though teachers' roles and responsibilities vary from country to country, there are typically more differences between countries than between them. It is helpful to identify three subgroups of teachers because the nature of the activities that make up teaching depends more on the age of the people being taught than anything else: grade school, or primary school, educators; teachers from secondary schools; furthermore, college instructors. In some developed nations, elementary school teachers make up nearly half of all teachers, while in developing nations, they make up three-quarters or more. Educators at the college level are the littlest gathering.
