The School Bus Shelter is a story about Fred and John. Fred is a prosperous car dealer in Bemidji and a widower raising his twelve-year-old daughter, Molly. Through a twist of fate, he goes fishing with John, a twelve-year-old Ojibwa boy living in poverty on the White Earth Reservation, who becomes his fishing and hunting guide. Fred discovers a new environment, new friends, and Sarah, a woman who has been through two difficult marriages and owns a beautiful cabin on a nearby lake.
