The Scattered Seed: Shadows of Lucifer
Lucifer, an Immortal, relegated by the Gods to Pluto (the Plane of Penalty) after the War of Fire, can see that the humans on the Nine Planes are moving toward another terrible war.
The Gods, as usual, are detached and disinterested in mortal affairs, but they have restricted Lucifer's ability to interfere.
The Argenti, a sect of women that arose after that war, have learned to harness the magic energy inherent in the fine metals. Devina, the Argenti ruling queen, is determined to finish off the freemen and reign over the eight living Planes, and Pluto if possible.
The smaller races (Virdi, Maribelli, Grell, Draugrs) are too few and lack the power to stop her. Ulrik, the Emperor of Mars, the last plane where men still rule, has a strong army, but is outnumbered. His male wizards are nowhere near as powerful as an Argenti witch. He enlists Morsarth, the (presumably dead) grand wizard, the inventor of the bright fire which turned Mars into a desert.
The only impediment to Devina's ambitions, unknown by all, may be the bastards Lucifer has sown in his forays off Pluto. If he can prevent Devina from finding and slaughtering them.
