This is not one of those big bug movies.

I was disappointed that there were no big bugs and Satan never showed up. Of course, I saw the trailer first, so I knew that there were not going to be any big bugs like in Tarantula or Them! This is based on the book “The Satan Bug”, a first-person narrative thriller novel written by Scottish author Alistair MacLean. But remember, the movie is loosely based on the book; so, if you read the book, it will do you no good, and you may be disappointed. Basically, there is this quaint little laboratory in the middle of the desert called Station Three. They design all kinds of germs and antidotes. We know why they do this. Looks like someone has pilfered a few flasks containing botulism and their favorite virus called “The Satan Bug,” hence the name of the movie. I will not go through the story as it is fun for you to watch as the secrets unfold. Then watch again with what you learned the first time to see the clues placed before you. There are too many exceptional actors of the time (1965) to name, but some of them are George Maharis (Exodus -1960), Richard Basehart (Moby Dick -1956), Anne Francis (Forbidden Planet – 1956), and, of all people, a young Edward Asner (Muppets Haunted Mansion – 2021). A side bit of fun is looking at the old-time cars, phones with wires, clothing, and hairstyles. Watch, and you will see other ancient stuff. The bottom line is that this is a well-played-out “will the world be saved?” movie.
