The Salt Block: Heartwarming Stories from a Cowboy-Pastor

Bubba Stahl was a cowboy from a very young age, complete with hat, boots, toy guns, stick horses, and red bandana. Bubba was also a Christian at an early age. Each week he eagerly attended "SundaySchoolandChurch," as it was known in his family. He began at a young age to express a strong interest in Christ. His father shared his faith with Bubba by sharing the communion cracker and juice with him. Bubba grew to become a well-loved pastor. Bubba has successfully combined his roles as cowboy and preacher. In this charming and inspirational memoir, he shares his experiences with warmth and humor, featuring the many people he's served and those from whom he has learned. He tells engaging stories of his work on ranches, in churches, and on mission fields around the world with his wife and sons at his side through it all. The Salt Block discloses the life of a cowboy and the evolution of a preacher. Bubba received his calling to become a pastor from Jesus Christ on August 7, 1982. Bubba's heartfelt story encourages everyone to live a life of passion and begin a fresh and glorious relationship with God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Funny and inspiring

I met Bubba Stahl when he came to First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi as our pastor, but I really came to know him and admire him as he led our Congregation. I have read his book countless times because I was lucky enough to do some early editing on it. I love this book. It is full of wonderful stories of Bubba, the cowboy, and Bubba, the minister. "The Spotted Bull" is one of my very favorite cowboy stories. I can picture Bubba running around a tree with the spotted bull in hot pursuit and his horse Whiskey grazing nearby ignoring the entire adventure. Then there's the beautiful story of "Wiasawa, the Twin." This is the touching story of a small disfigured boy in Uganda and his affect on Bubba, who was there as a missionary. Through it all, The Salt Block is the touching story of a man moved toward the ministry, learning and developing in his journey through life with the love of his life by his side. I think this book is a worthwhile addition to anyone's library.

Down to Earth Pastor - enjoyable & easy to read

I might be considered partial because Charles (Bubba) Stahl was our pastor years ago at New Prospect Batptist Church near Glen Rose, Texas. His ministry blessed our family during a very sad time as we grieved over the loss of our oldest son. We have been able to learn about him over the years. The book is written just as he speaks. We are glad to hear how he has blessed so many lives during his ministry. If one wants to be blessed & inspired to have a closer relationship with the Lord, this is the book for you. Also, his wife, Beth is the perfect example of a minister's wife. In the book he tells how one lady described him as a "low down preacher". He is that: a "down to earth pastor" & his heart & message will meet you at your point of need. Phyllis Ragland, Glen Rose, TX

The trail of a cowboy preacher

Bubba Stahl has an interesting story of life sprinkled with humor. He shares his heart warming story of how he walked away from his lifetime passion of being a fulltime cowboy to that of a pastor. This is a story about how a man chooses God and how that choice proves to change his life forever.
