The Sage: A Nigerian Historical Faction Novel

"It has been a very tumultuous night for the Ogbonnaya as they all sat despondently in the living room of the family house. There was his wife Adamma whose pregnancy had entered into the tenth month. There were his two lovely daughters Nkechi and Ogo twelve and ten years respectively. Nkechi, all fair and pretty with her father's slim figure which was the prominent characteristics of the Ogbonnaya, Ogo with her chocolate skin and those piercing blue eyes showed some traits of plumpness possibly from her mother's side. Her mother had been one of the most beautiful girls in her village when she was young. That beauty has remained untouched, not even child bearing could change that.

But quivering in pain for most of the night with both of her hands clutching her big tummy, there was little of that beauty in the tired woman who had been groaning with pain throughout the night. "Ogbonnaya- Mr. Kalu called out to his first son who was also awake in his own room. the thirteen years old boy a pupil of St Pauls Primary School, Abuma Ututu was chiefly sad because today the first day of October 1960 was the day everyone was looking forward to because it is the day Nigeria will become an independent country. And the whole school had for weeks been rehearsing the march past that will be taking place at the district headquarters in Arochukwu. the few students that will be representing the school had all been given the green white green flag that will be flown for the first time tomorrow, alas he will not be attending the celebration, not when her mother was this sick."
