The Room Without a Record: A Last Vow Society Novel

By Abir M

An archive that should not exist. A vow neither of them remembers making. A Society finally forced to investigate itself.

At sixty-three, Dr. Ruth Calder has spent decades helping the Last Vow Society separate the impossible from the merely unexplained. Then a sealed envelope surfaces from Room 14-an archive omitted from the official plans.

On the seal are two sets of initials.

Hers.

And those of Jonas Vale, the sixty-one-year-old retired federal judge who has known Ruth long enough to recognize every way she avoids the truth.

Neither remembers signing it.

What waits inside reaches back to St. Brigid, Helen Orison, and the founding promise that shaped the Society itself. But old recordings, altered records and missing custody histories are only the beginning. Someone in the present is willing to break in, destroy evidence and exploit decades of institutional trust to keep the full record buried.

Ruth and Jonas must determine what can actually be proved, what the law requires them to leave sealed, and whether an institution built to honor promises has been honest about its own.

And as a friendship measured in decades becomes something neither expected to find this late in life, they face a final question more difficult than any haunting:

What does the living owe the truth when knowing everything was never their right?

THE ROOM WITHOUT A RECORD is the fifth and concluding novel in The Last Vow Society, a series of mature paranormal romantic suspense. Each novel combines a complete love story with a human mystery that must stand on ordinary evidence.

Some promises survive the people who made them.
