The Room in My Heart

"The Room in My Heart" is a fiction story for young children (2+), and the adults in their lives. It is written as a letter from a special adult in that child's life at a final goodbye, such as when a child changes foster homes, reunifies with parents, parental rights are terminated, or more generally, for children who graduate from a grade or graduate from therapy. It is intended to help caregivers and children symbolically create a meaningful connection to one another, despite not seeing each other anymore. As an Early Childhood Mental Health Therapist working with foster children, I created a section at the end for adults. This section includes tips and suggestions for supporting healthy goodbyes.
