Publishers Weekly. "The best combination of science fiction and technothriller this year." **Deep beneath Ayers Rock, something has awakened. And it's sending a message humanity isn't ready to receive.** When a terrorist detonates a nuclear device under South Africa's Vredefort Dome, it triggers more than geological chaos. Tracking stations across the globe detect a powerful transmission emanating from inside Australia's Ayers Rock-broadcasting the exact same message sent into space aboard the Voyager probe decades earlier. Captain Robert Hawkins has just returned from a mission that cost him everything. Still reeling from a devastating personal tragedy, he's pulled into a crisis that defies explanation. Something impossibly old-and impossibly advanced-has been hidden inside the world's largest monolith. And now it's reaching out to four other sites around the globe. Assembled by presidential adviser Steven Lamb, an unlikely team of experts must unravel an ancient mystery: a brilliant young physicist who sees patterns no one else can detect, a statistical projection specialist whose numbers predict catastrophe, and a geologist who understands the earth's deepest secrets. Together with Hawkins's special operations expertise, they must penetrate Ayers Rock and discover what lies within. But as they descend into the chamber at the heart of the ancient stone, they realize the transmission isn't a greeting-it's a warning. And what they find inside will challenge everything humanity believes about its place in the universe. From the author of the bestselling Area 51 series comes a heart-pounding military techno-thriller that combines cutting-edge science, ancient mysteries, and pulse-pounding action. Perfect for fans of Michael Crichton, James Rollins, and Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. **The Rock is where science fiction meets special operations-and the fate of the world hangs in the balance.**
This book was one if the finest I have ever read. The ending is so amazing that I found myself still thinking about it days after. Doherty has once again brought suspense in with the way of the special forces soldier. Great characters!!
An exciting science thriller

The back of the book labels "The Rock" as a science thriller. This is an accurate description as it's a combination of science fiction and techno-thriller. While similar to his other books (Area 51, Atlantis, etc. -- published under a pseudonym), this one grabs you at the beginning and doesn't let go.Five people from across the planet are summoned to a secretive meeting with no idea of what is to happen. They soon learn that a transmission has been received with their names included. Other scientists, the military, the Russians and the President eventually get involved. What results is a race against time to preserve the future of the human race. The resolution is well presented and has a definite sci-fi feel to it.If you enjoy the other novels by this author, you will definitely enjoy this one as well. It's a quick and easy read that can be completed in one sitting. If you find this work entertaining, check out the novels by James Rollins for other "science thriller" works.
The Rock

This is one the most exciting books I have read in along time. Robert Doherty and his alias's are doing a fine job. This book has time travel, the old USA adversary The USSR, and a new Continent to explore. The new charactors are refreshing. I don't feel the book can lead esle where, the ending was too finite. But check out his other books, there are all high quality.
A must-read for all who enjoys sci-fi and military fiction

I first read Doherty's Area 51 books, but then found The Rock. A wonderful book that rivals any book I've ever read. The plot jumps around, but that only helps to keep your interest because you're constantly thinking about what has happened and what will happen. Also check out his web site for more information. He has wonderful many wonderful books including The Line, The Gate, and the Omega Missle. I highly recommend all of them.
This book is entertaining and it makes you think.

This is the best story I've ever read. It's good because the story is entertaining. I read this book in 4 1/2 hours. I couldn't put it down. I love his Are 51 books, but I definatly think that this story was superior. I'd love a sequal, but the ending didn't seem to lead to another. I guess I can just hope! Jesse
