a page-turner of a collection

Usually, I read poetry collections a poem or two at a time. Read a poem, set the book down to ponder it, go on to whatever else I have going on in my life. This book was different. After reading the first couple of poems, I couldn't put the book down. There's a narrative through this collection and it's as compelling as any good novel. Yes, individually, the poems are worthy of that pondering time, but read as a whole, you get a picture of a man's life, or at least a significant part of it. Intimate, sad, angry, joyful, funny . . . these poems have the stuff to make poetry fans.
