Rayuth Chan-ocha, Thai navy officer and political leader, was born in 1954. He joined the navy in 1972 after graduating from the Royal Navy Academy. After the 2006 coup, he became appointed to the National Legislative Assembly. In 2014, he led a coup that forced out High Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Prayuth retired from the navy and changed his name to High Minister. In 2016, his authorities secured the adoption of a new constitution. He remained high minister after the 2019 elections.
