Love the Poems, Hate the Yankees

Poet Rodney Torreson has crafted a brilliant and cagey debut that on the surface is about the New York Yankees, but underneath is about what all our human lives teem with: joys and sorrows, honesty, self-esteem, professional obligations, the mysteries surrounding talent, legacies, wishful thinking, formative moments, memories, etc... The story on the book is that it was submitted for a big poetry competition and although it wasn't selected as the winner, the editor loved it so much he decided to publish it anyway. For anyone trying to get their first book published, this is *the* Cinderella story. The Ripening of Pinstripes also has a notes section that explains who all the players are for those who might not be familiar with the Yankees. And yes, although my favorite team is whoever is playing the Yankees, this book is well worth reading.
