Deep in the forest of Fontainebleau, Corma sat hunched over a small cauldron in her cottage. Her husband, Dane, stood nearby, watching her as she read from a thick leather-bound spellbook and carefully measured herbs, mixing them into the cauldron with the ox blood and human hair she had placed there earlier. In the center of the room stood an oval mirror he had crafted for her, its glass gleaming in the dim light.
