While John Philip Sousa was not entirely a slave to formulaic marches (in this march, for example, the introduction is an unusual twenty measures long), he did believe that marches should be paced at three minutes. That construct is followed in this example. With no unusual technical demands and explicit editing and performance notes offered by Frederick Fennell, this is a worthy piece for any band concert.
