Amazing!

This book, like everything Victoria Goddard writes, has it all - incredibly complex, well-thought-out world, wonderful characters, action, adventure, all while dealing with difficult human relationships, but in a fun way. And I can't think of another book that deals with how to be an adventurer decades after your famous adventures ended. Definitely read The Hands of the Emperor and At the Feet of the Sun first, though. In fact, read everything by this author. You won't regret it!
