awe-inspiring

"Every key unlocks something. Every doorway opens to somewhere. And every box has the potential to hold treasure." We waited five years between the last book in The Weaver Trilogy and the first book in The Rivenlea Sphere. Another year for this second installment of the series. And all that waiting was absolutely worth it. Worth. It. Wow, Lindsay Franklin has outdone herself with The Restitching of Camille DuLaine. Yes, the first book was powerful, creative, fascinating, and captivating. But this second book is more multi-faceted and awe-inspiring than the first, like a polished and glittering diamond (or a one-of-a-kind purple opal, if you want to keep with the theme of the story). Emlyn and Laramie, in their first person voices, carry most of the plot while first person voice of Camille and third person voice of Hadeon fill in the gaps. The secret Hadeon holds so closely starts seventeen years prior and we get chunks of this secret through the years as we get caught up to the present catastrophe Novem XVII faces. I loved Emlyn and her brave, clever, loyal, self-sacrificial heart. She has grown up and learns to take her proper place within Novem XVII. Laramie is a sigh-worthy YA hero, protective, loyal, tender, strong, funny, and completely devoted to Emmy. The action sequence of this story moved much faster; Novem XVII jumped through many storylines via portals and gateways and I really enjoyed seeing glimpses of Secret Garden, Alice in Wonderland, Camelot, Sherwood Forest and other classics through their eyes as all the fictional spheres became jumbled. If you enjoy YA fantasy, you do not want to miss this book or this duology. It is the perfect companion for a day like today when the world is blanketed in snow and all is quiet.
