The Replacement

I read mostly non-fiction, but I am glad that I strayed from the norm to read this book. It kept my interest, start to finish. A very interesting story with lots of twists and turns. Robin Shope and Susan Wales combined to make a great sequel to their original Jill Lewis story, "The Chase". I highly recommend both these books to those who like "who-donnit" stories with a modern flair, and I am sure, like me, will want a third installment. Bob P.

A Terrific Book!!!

I adored THE CHASE and couldn't wait for the sequel. Literally, I was waiting with bated breath. THE REPLACEMENT met everyone of my expectations. If you love murder mysteries, you'll love this book. I love the characters in these books. I also love plots that are intriguing and continue to surprise me, and that's what THE REPLACEMENT does! I want to reread THE CHASE again, and also give copies of both books to my friends as gifts. I love this author. She is such a great storyteller, and I feel like I'm in the middle of the action! And as terrfying as her plots can be, she still writes with an optimism about life that I really appreciate. I loved both THE CHASE and THE REPLACEMENT.

Great Book!

If you love harrowing suspense intertwined with romance, you will love THE REPLACEMENT! It takes up where THE CHASE left off. I can't imagine anyone reading this book without reading the first book in this series, THE CHASE. Personally, I think it makes it so much better if you do, but I would have to say that this book will stand alone. But wouldn't you be curious how Jill met John? I agree with the reader who said it was scarier than the movie PSYCHO. If only Alfred Hitchcock were around to make the movie! Read this book, and you'll understand exactly what everyone is talking about. I could hardly wait for the next book to follow THE CHASE assuming Jill would marry... This book is full of surprises. There is even an appearance from her ex-fiance that creep David. These authors have such a knack for their twists and turns that it's almost like watching a thriller movie. Just as soon as you think you have everything figured out, they go down another path and totally bamboozle you. I hope their next book will come out soon because I have to know what happens to Jill. The authors have crafted such a vulnerable and quirky character that Jill Lewis feels real..like an old friend. I can hardly wait to see what happens and what she decides about her life. If you love a good mystery...

In this sequel to The Chase, Jill Lewis is back on the job as an investigative journalist in the political hotbed of Washington, D.C. She and John are as deeply in love as ever, yet John's unexplainable absences as an FBI agent drive Jill's naturally inquisitive nature crazy. When a senator Jill is scheduled to meet dies of a stroke, the media focuses on his replacement, Tommy Harrison. But all is not as it seems. A fearful girl begs to meet with Jill. In an unexpected meeting, Harrison tells Jill he believes the senator's stroke was induced by a drug made of snake venom. Meanwhile, John repeatedly warns Jill about Harrison and she agrees that he had the most to gain from the senator's death. And if one person has already been murdered, who will be next? This excellent suspense novel starts the action on page one and keeps it going. Plenty of plot twists and surprises leave the reader guessing. The characters are well-drawn, though not memorable, except for Rubric, who is perhaps my favorite character in the series. Average prose lets the plot carry the novel, but becomes awkward in a few places. Though able to be read on its own, The Replacement is better read after The Chase, and the ambiguous ending will have readers anxious for the next book in the series. Recommended for women who love a good mystery. - Katie Hart, Christian Book Previews.com

enthralling investigative political thriller

Washington Gazette political journalist Jill Lewis waits at the Capital building to meet with Senator Brown, who asked for her to see him. She thinks how frightened the Senator seemed when he called her late at night. However, before they meet, he apparently dies from a heart attack. Senator Tommy Harrison is going to replace him as the Minority Leader. Harrison believes his predecessor was murdered and so he asks Jill to use her media sources to investigate. Her efforts prove successful forcing an autopsy to be performed that revealed that traces of MST, a toxic substance found in the venom of a very poisonous snake, is in the blood of the deceased. That leads to Bio-Tech where experiments using the substance on brain tumors were being tested. Two other people with knowledge about MST are murdered; Jill learns her "client" Senator Tommy Harrison has stock in Bio-Tech making her wonder if he could be the killer. The reporter quickly learns how politics and big business are the modern day double helix that leads to unchecked power and some who have it use it to break laws they were sworn to uphold.. Jill courageously pursues the story though obviously aware that an insider wants her to back away. Her tenaciousness almost makes her the next victim, but also provides a fascinating and enthralling investigative political thriller for fans to enjoy. Harriet Klausner
