The Repercussion: The Weight We Carry
The Repercussion: The Weight We Carry
What if every cruel act carried a consequence-and someone had the power to decide where that consequence landed?
Jonathan Calder has spent twenty-three years surrounded by beautiful things at Vesper & Rowe, one of London's most exclusive department stores. Immaculate, observant and controlled, he has learned that expensive surroundings do not make people good. Behind polished glass, quiet voices and impeccable manners, cruelty can flourish unnoticed.
But Jonathan sees what others miss.
He sees the invisible threads connecting actions to their consequences-the damage people inflict, the pain that travels beyond the moment, and the weight eventually carried by someone else. More dangerously, Jonathan has discovered that he can interfere. He can take a consequence and send it back towards the person who created it.
At first, it feels like justice.
Then Eleanor "Nell" Vane enters Vesper & Rowe.
Guarded, perceptive and carrying wounds of her own, Nell has been searching for the man who can make consequences change direction. Her arrival forces Jonathan to confront an uncomfortable question: if you possess the power to punish someone who deserves it, does that give you the right to decide what justice looks like?
As buried histories surface and old choices return demanding payment, Jonathan discovers that consequences cannot always distinguish between punishment and revenge-and that protecting someone may mean surrendering the very control he believed made him righteous.
Set against a rain-soaked London of luxury stores, dark streets, fractured relationships and carefully guarded secrets, The Repercussion: The Weight We Carry is a dark, atmospheric novel about power, trauma, responsibility, love and the dangerous certainty of believing we know what other people deserve.
Because some debts cannot be paid.
They can only be carried.
